Ear Wax removal treatment methods
Our experienced ear wax care specialists will review your health questionnaire, discuss the available options with you, and recommend the safest and most effective method for you.
Manual Extraction
Manual ear wax removal treatment is performed using a long thin instrument that is carefully and gently used dislodge the wax and remove it from your ear. This method is most typically suitable for removing a small amount of wax that has built up near the entrance of your ear canal.
To get the best results from your ear wax removal treatment, we recommend applying ear drops or oil for 3–5 days before your appointment. This softens the wax, making the procedure easier and more effective. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us on 01332 806 105 before your visit.

Irrigation
The water irrigation method as an ear wax removal treatment allows the technician to flush warm water through the ear canal using an ear irrigator, allowing the wax to be removed. The irrigation solution is carefully warmed to body temperature to reduce dizziness and/or vertigo (which can commonly occur if the solution is either too warm or too cold). We use the spray to gently stream water into the ear, it may need to be repeated a couple of times. When the wax has been removed, we use a special mopping apparatus to dry the ear canal.
While the procedure is very safe, gentle, and effective especially for removing larger amounts of ear wax there is a small risk of ear infection if proper aftercare isn’t followed. To reduce this risk, it’s important to keep your ears clean and dry for at least 5 days following the treatment.
Microsuction
Microsuction is our gold standard and safest ear wax removal treatment as it does not require water to remove the wax.
A fine tube is connected to a suction machine. Our ear wax removal specialist is able to view your ear canal with the aid of a microscope to allow them to see exactly where the wax build up is. It is a very thorough process and is particularly suitable for smaller ear canals and for those who may have suffered problems with their ears previously, such as ear drum perforation.
Before proceeding, the specialist will examine your ears to confirm the presence of wax. We’ll also review the information provided in your health questionnaire to ensure microsuction is a safe and appropriate option based on your previous ear health.
Before you go for an ear wax removal treatment, it is important to oil your ears ideally 3-5 days before your appointment. This helps to soften the wax in preparation and make the treatment much more effective. If you have any questions, please contact us on 01332 806 105 ahead of your appointment.
